Creative Brief
Tufts University commissioned Nate Padavick to create an illustrated map of The Quad along with a collection of building and site renderings that are located around it.
Project Goals
The goal of this map is to celebrate the history of this central space on the historic campus of Tufts. The icons needed to simplify the buildings to be immediately recognizable—a “quick visual read.”
Project Realization
This map was printed alongside a story in the college’s magazine about the Quad’s history and presence in the daily life of students.
Creative Process
In order to produce a detailed sketch (pictured above) of the map, Nate pulled photographic reference (also pictured above) of the featured sites. The color choices were limited to the university’s on-brand color palette.
Materials
This map was created in Adobe Illustrator by Nate Padavick, using vector brushes and his hand-drawn font Bubble. AI was not used in the creation of this illustration.
