Creative Brief
University of the Pacific commissioned Nate Padavick to create an illustrated map of their campus that celebrates its architecture and opportunities, plus an illustrated map of the nearby city of Stockton that features many of its amenities, public sites, and entertainment venues.Project Goals
The goal of this project, which was mailed to all admitted students, was to excite them about the university and encourage them to confirm their enrollment.Project Realization
This project manifested into a double-sided, 17” x 22” poster, which folds down to a 8.5” x 11” self-mailer. On the interior (poster) side is a campus map. On the exterior side is a map of Stockton, two spot illustrations, and a space for addressing and postage.Creative Process
In this particular project, the step that required the most creativity was the during the planning phase, as opposed to the actual illustration phase. Nate worked closely with the client to envision several different layouts, from brochures to booklets to self-mailing broadsheets. Considerations included printing price, postage fees, and recipient experience. Once the layout was confirmed, the sketching and illustrating phases moved quickly through several rounds of reviews and revisions. The end product produced the maximum impact at the minimum price.Materials
This map was created in ProCreate by Nate Padavick, using digital brushes and his hand-drawn fonts EZ 2 Read and 3D. AI was not used in the creation of this illustration.Testimonial
