Creative Brief

Williams College commissioned Nate Padavick to create a collection of campus building renderings that will illustrate an article about the sustainable/LEED certified buildings around campus.

Project Goals

The goal of these renderings was to create iconographic versions of 15 campus buildings, which vary greatly in size and architectural style–from historic stone churches to modern libraries and performance halls. The icons needed to simplify the buildings to be immediately recognizable—a “quick visual read.”

Project Realization

This map was printed alongside a story called “Building a Sustainable Future” in the Fall 2023 issue of the college’s magazine, which can be viewed online here.

Creative Process

Before commencing the set of illustrations, Nate chose one particular building and presented a fully rendered version of it to the art director. Once the illustration style was approved, the creation of the remaining 14 architectural renderings was smooth.

Materials

This map was created in Adobe Illustrator by Nate Padavick, using vector brushes. AI was not used in the creation of this illustration.

Testimonial

Even though we had a tight deadline, Nate responded quickly and provided a suite of illustrations…ahead of schedule! He understood what we needed, provided a sample illustration, and followed through perfectly. I highly recommend Nate to any art director.
